Sisters II (Photo)

My daughters taking a nap together in my living room chair.
I intentionally opened up the shutter one stop from the meter (for the overexposed look) then pushed up the ISO another three stops so I handheld at 3 seconds for the out-of-focus “dream” look.

Used Walkway (Photo)

A pedestrian sign severed from its base lies in a walkway lined with cleanup dumpsters in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Reality Television (Photo)

A large screen television washed up and buried in a sidewalk construction site that collapsed from the flood waters in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Railroad Bridge (Photo)

Remains of the CRANDIC railroad bridge in downtown Cedar Rapids. The rail bridge was loaded with boxcars full of rocks in a futile attempt to save it from collapsing in the river’s wake.

Fighting The Current (Photo)

A single piece of rail from the collapsed CRANDIC railroad bridge in downtown Cedar Rapids struggles to stay above water in the current of the Cedar River. It would eventually succumb and be swept under.

Observing (Photo)

A man sitting and observing the cleanup efforts fat the corner of 5th Avenue SE and 2nd Street SE in downtown Cedar Rapids. I was trying to emphasize the sense of scale here in relation to the cleanup efforts by framing the shot such that he was in the very corner.

Roadside Debris (Photo)

Washed up debris on the side of Mount Vernon Road in Cedar Rapids. The leaning utility pole, despite its need to be eventually replaced/reset, is not considered a danger, visual evidence to the contrary.

Fireworks Fog (Photo)

Post-fireworks smoke at the baseball park in Cedar Rapids. I thought this was a throw-away shot when I first snapped it, but I think it turned out pretty well with an eerie glow off the scoreboard powering back up.

Outfield Lights (Photo)

The Cedar Rapids baseball park at night, before the celebrity softball game on 7/4. I wanted to play around with some higher contrast black and white settings in Aperture, trying to go for an old ballpark feel. Not sure I quite succeeded on this shot, but I still like the end result.

The Chair (Photo)

Food waters impale a chain link fence with a debris laden wood chair in downtown Cedar Rapids. The chair itself came from a cafe about a quarter mile away.

Play Ball (Photo)

The Cedar Rapids Kernels allowed fans to take to the outfield to play catch before the July 4 celebrity softball game.

Dumpster (Photo)

A trash dumpster left in a park by flood waters. Its original location was about a block from where it was found.

Overturned Desk (Photo)

Flood waters carried this desk into a parking garage. Water lines can be seen riding up the wall on the left side.

Bracket Busted (Photo)

A bracket chalkboard hangs from a fence where it was left by flood waters. The bar that it came from was about a quarter mile away from where this was found.

Water Lines (Photos)

The receding flood waters leave their mark on a downtown building and inside a stairwell. The highest marks on both these photographs was about eight feet from ground level.

Generator (Photo)

A generator provides temporary post-flood power to buildings in downtown Cedar Rapids.
