The more I looked at that black theme, the ever so slightly more it depressed me. I figured it was time for me to go out and seek something different. Now, I really like the Hemingway Theme for its simple, clean, uncluttered layout, but I felt it needed a touch of color outside of the “black” and “white” canned versions. Unfortunately, I really couldn’t find anything I wanted that kept the essence of the theme but made it a little more inviting on the eyes (although the Japanese Blossom version came awfully close).
Mumbling under my breath, I tore open the CSS file and started digging through it, inch by painful inch. Naturally, I probably would have had this done faster, cleaner, and with a boatload less stress if I had paid someone to do it, but in the end I learned quite a bit about how things work with Wordpress and template design. I don’t think it turned out too terribly, to be honest. I’m not going to rush out and start a professional template design company or anything silly like that, but I can hack my way around my own website, which is always a good thing.
I also managed to tidy up a couple of PHP bugs/annoyances in the template code. I have one still with the previous/next page links I’m still trying to figure out (thanks Google for pointing that out), but it’s not so vital that it will stop the site from running.
If you see any colors or links out of whack before I do, please let me know.
